Gator Youth Cheerleaders

GYFC Cheerleading program is a non-competitive team that provides athletic opportunities for beginners to experienced cheerleaders. Our programs have no cutting of squads and no tryouts. The Gator Youth Cheer  program is focused on the traditional role of cheerleading. At this time the cheerleading program exclusively participates at GYFC football games and local community events in the South Jersey area.

The goal of our cheer program is to inspire leadership on and off the field.  We believe cheerleaders play a very important role at events and games. As a cheerleader your child will boost team spirit, promote good sportsmanship, develop positive crowd involvement and help participants and spectators enjoy an outstanding time. Providing a wholesome, enjoyable experience for the youth in our community, while teaching the fundamentals and techniques of cheerleading includes: cheers, motions, tumbling, stunting and dancing.

We are able to keep registration fees low with help from our generous sponsors and fundraising support. The registration fee for 2020 is $100 plus a refundable $30 fundraising fee. GYFC provides uniforms including shell, skirt, cheer briefs, crop top, bows, socks and poms. Cheerleaders only need to purchase cheer sneakers and optional items such as warm-up uniforms.

Cheerleader Eligibility Details:
We have 3 Cheerleader squads with players ranging in age from 4-14 years old. To ensure a safe and positive environment, each cheerleader is placed on a squad based on age. These teams may be combined or adjusted based on seasonal registration, skill level and maturity of the athlete.

NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS- To ensure that participating youth are afforded the best opportunities, GYFC will refer all Gateway Regional High School students to the high school coach for eligibility review. Children who are not eligible or able to cheer at Gateway Regional High School may be allowed to participate if all other eligibility requirements are met.

Practice Information
Practice Begins: Cheerleading practices begin in early August (exact dates will be released in July), for all squads at the GYFC field. Once school opens cheerleader practice will move indoors to Parkview Elementary School. Emails will be sent to all parents to inform them of the location.

Practice/Conditioning Schedule: Practice for Junior and Senior Squads is 6:30-8:30 p.m., while the Mini squad will only practice Tuesday and Thursday 6:30-7:30 p.m. Once school begins all cheerleader squads will practice two (2) days a week (Tuesday and Thursday). Practice will be indoors and outdoors all season to allow time on the mats to practice tumbling and stunting. All cheerleaders should bring bottled water with them to every practice and game.

Practice Locations: The outdoor practice field is located near the playground opposite the Gator Youth Football field at 801 Almonession Road, Westville, NJ. The indoor location is at Parkview Elementary School in the gym 101 Birch Ave. Westville NJ, 08093

Practice Attire: Cheerleaders should wear loose-fitting shorts or leggings (no jean shorts, low cut shorts or button pants), supportive gym shoes and a plain t-shirt (no spaghetti straps). No exceptions!

Practice Cancellations: Practices are rarely cancelled due to rain. However, if LIGHTNING occurs, practice will be suspended for 30 minutes from the last lightning occurrence. Practice cancellation will be determined by the football and cheer unit directors. Gator Youth Football Cheer staff will remain with the children until every child has been picked up. If thunderstorms/severe weather is in the forecast on practice days, please be prepared to pick up your child early, in the event practice gets cancelled. If practice should be cancelled for any other reason, the team parent or coaches will communicate the cancellation.
