Gator Youth Cheerleaders

GYFC Cheerleading program is a non-competitive team that provides athletic opportunities for beginners to experienced cheerleaders. Our programs have no cutting of squads and no tryouts. The Gator Youth Cheer  program is focused on the traditional role of cheerleading. At this time the cheerleading program exclusively participates at GYFC football games and local community events in the South Jersey area.

The goal of our cheer program is to inspire leadership on and off the field.  We believe cheerleaders play a very important role at events and games. As a cheerleader your child will boost team spirit, promote good sportsmanship, develop positive crowd involvement and help participants and spectators enjoy an outstanding time. Providing a wholesome, enjoyable experience for the youth in our community, while teaching the fundamentals and techniques of cheerleading includes: cheers, motions, tumbling, stunting and dancing.

FEES: We are able to keep registration fees low with help from our generous sponsors and fundraising support. The registration fee for 2022 is $75 including the $30 fundraising fee.

Fundraising Fee: The fundraising fee is part of the registration fee and is refundable when the family sales the annual raffle tickets.

Uniforms: Parents are responsible for purchasing uniforms (approximately $100) and sneakers directly from the GYFC vendor. All uniforms will be shipped to GYFC to eliminate shipping cost and distributed before the first game. Purchased uniforms and poms are each cheerleaders to keep and they may reuse them or resell them to another family for a nominal fee. The vendor will send an email to the families at the email address provided during registration.

Cheerleader Eligibility Details:  GYFC cheerleaders range in age from 4-14 years old. To ensure a safe and positive environment, each cheerleader is placed on a squad based on age. These teams may be combined or adjusted based on seasonal registration, skill level and maturity of the athlete.

NO RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS- GYFC cheerleaders may come from any town or location. To ensure that participating youth are afforded the best opportunities, GYFC may refer Gateway Regional High School students to the high school coach for eligibility review. Children who are not eligible or able to cheer at Gateway Regional High School may be allowed to participate if all other eligibility requirements are met.

Practice Information
Practice Begins: Cheerleading practices begin in early August (exact dates will be released in July), for all squads at the GYFC field. Once school opens cheerleader practice may move indoors to Parkview Elementary School based on availability. Emails will be sent to all parents to inform them of the location.

Practice/Conditioning Schedule: Practice will be announced by each squads coach. Once school begins all cheerleader squads will practice two (2) days a week. Practice will be indoors and outdoors all season to allow time on the mats to practice tumbling and stunting. All cheerleaders should bring bottled water with them to every practice and game.

Practice Locations: The outdoor practice field is located near the playground opposite the Gator Youth Football field at 801 Almonesson Road, Westville, NJ. The indoor location is at Parkview Elementary School in the gym 101 Birch Ave. Westville NJ, 08093. Parents must remain at the field or building. They should NOT be on the field or in the building.

Practice Attire: Cheerleaders should wear loose-fitting shorts or leggings (no jean shorts, low cut shorts or button pants), supportive gym shoes and a plain t-shirt (no spaghetti straps). No exceptions!

Practice Cancellations: Practices are rarely cancelled due to rain. However, if LIGHTNING occurs, practice will be suspended for 30 minutes from the last lightning occurrence. Practice cancellation will be determined by the football and cheer unit directors. Gator Youth Football Cheer staff will remain with the children until every child has been picked up. If thunderstorms/severe weather is in the forecast on practice days, please be prepared to pick up your child early, in the event practice gets cancelled. If practice should be cancelled for any other reason, the team parent or coaches will communicate the cancellation.

Volunteer Requirements: Each family may be assigned at least 2 volunteer activities each season. The assigned volunteer activity will be posted at the field and on the website. It is the family's responsibility to ensure that someone completes the assigned volunteer activity. The athletes account will be assessed a $75 fee for each volunteer activity not completed and the athlete will not be able to participate until it is paid. If the family cannot complete the activity as assigned it is their responsibility to find someone else to switch with someone or complete the activity.
